Travel in a super jeep to the unique Landmannalaugar located in the heart of the Icelandic highlands. Bathe in natural geothermal baths and drive up the slopes of Iceland´s most active volcano Mount Hekla.

Itinerary:

Leaving Reykjavik we drive through Thjorsardalur (Þjórsárdalur) and make our first stop at Hjalparfoss (Hjálparfoss) waterfall, used since ancient times as an oasis for travellers where they could relax and let their horses graze and drink.

Highlanders

Now we are ready for real highland adventures as we turn off the tarmac roads into the F marked highland roads where the super jeep is at home, crossing rivers and driving on tough highland gravel roads. The journey to Landmannalaugar is one of the most beautiful highland routes in Iceland, offering an unique diversity of landscape and nature.

The ugly lake

Before entering the Landmannalaugar reserve we will make a stop at crater Ljotipollur (Ljótipollur) and lake Frostastadavatn (Frostastaðavatn).

Landmannalaugar, colours of wonderland

Landmannalaugar is a unique and diverse geological area with the signature landmark being the multi coloured rhyolite mountains, displaying a kaleidoscope of brown, green, yellow, blue, purple, pink, black and white. There you can either take a relaxing bath in the natural geothermal baths or join a guided hike to the surrounding area where you can enjoy the grand view over the area.

The gateway to Hell

Leaving the geothermal baths and rhyolite mountains we head for Iceland´s most active volcano, Mount Hekla, which up until the 1800s was believed to be the gateway to Hell. Our specially modified super jeep will take you up to a height of 950 on the slopes of the volcano, where you can enjoy a stunning view in all directions.

Dance with the Aurora borealis

Depending on the season and weather conditions, you will have an opportunity to see either the midnight sun or the magnificent Northern Lights.
